GREAT shots! I went up to Tilden Park in Berkeley today looking for newts, didn't find any, sadly. Maybe it was too cold?

I'd live to find a Giant Salamander someday, too. Thanks for posting the pics.

Very nice! Your post is an excellent reminder of California's great salamander diversity.

I was wondering if any of you have ever crossed paths with Jake Kerby. He used to do some research on newts in Malibu, and now he is working on his phd in Davis, CA. We went to high school together, but I don't see him much anymore.

I never really knew how much of a name he made for himself in the newt world, so if anyone is familiar with him or his work it would be cool to hear about it.

Thanks,

Jake... Not Kerby... I'm Jake Roehl

Jake Kerby is a total badass. Pretty much the only better herpetologist in the world is Mike Benard. I mean look at his website: http://www.des.ucdavis.edu/research/sihlab/profiles/kerby.htm
Better yet, just Google "Jake Kerby" he dominates the whole page!

Hehe, I tried emailing you a few months ago Jake- did you change your email?

What's going on!

My email is jandhr@mac.com - I've gotten some of your emails and I saw the pictures of your newt...Lucas.

Send me an email...Lets go find some herps!

Jake

I don't know, that Kerby guy is kind of a trouble maker.

And I never understood the newt thing, when he could be working on P. regilla like a sane person.
