Something wrong with my eggs.........................?????????????

lazandlouie Feb 17, 2006 12:37 AM

Well right now i have about 22 eggs in my incubator and all of them except 3 or 4 maybe look great. A few of them look like a windshield might look like once its been hit, the way it shatters. I guess you could say im still a rookie but i usually dont bother my eggs until they hatch and i've never really noticed this with my other eggs, but i just dont think its stretch marks. Well i hope someone knows what im talking about. Thanks Everyone in advance!!

if you are that worried about it double check your incubation medium moisture level.
the eggs DO stretch tremendously. depending on the original size of the egg, and the size it gets before hatching, there can be faint marks that just look like stretch marks, or actual cracks in the surface of the egg. these 'cracks' ( which are just really big stretch marks) can be on the bottom most commonly, but sometimes will even be along the top of the egg.
the egg will almost triple in weight most of the time before it hatches if it is subjected to the correcty humidity requirements.
here's the top of an egg about to hatch

and here's the bottom side of the egg

if it looks like these and they are not moldy then they are fine.
this is a pretty extreme case of stretching too.
