Eperimenting with Irirs CB110 tub..Anyone else like them?

BobS Feb 17, 2006 08:36 AM

They seem nice and roomy for a box and the same bottom dimensions as a 50 gallon breeder tank(inside 36"x18" with less angled sides than cb70 tub)cages are certainly better for many reasons but this seeems like a nice size compromise option.

Took an adult Amel. corn out of a Neo 4' slant cage and the corn has almost the same bottom space in the tub. This corn (my daughters pet) is not much of a climber and seems to be reacting fine to the tub. initial cruising to check out new digs and now very laid back relaxed body movements ( sometimes calmly stretched out or loosely coiled, not cowering tightly coiled in a corner and seemingly stressed at any movementd)

This may be a winner tub. while limmited in height for climbing species, In the distant past I would have felt comfortable keeping a small colubrid like this corn in a 50 gallon in the day.

I like them but wish they were taller. Very well built for a box that large.

Building a rack around them is not the easiest. You end up wasting some material, although Bighurt's design and/or a hanging rack aren't so bad.

Howdy Chris! It's been a while. Taller would be nicer for sure. A commercial box of 4'x2' with a little height would be REAL nice, but at some point things get a little unweildy for quick and easy maintenance and as all of us learned early on, if you don't make it easy, things aren't cleaned as well/often as they should be.

For those of us that are building challenged, until Freedom breeders and the like get more affordable(nice pull out Jumbo rack!) it's a matter of compromise.(wish they made them in black too!)

On a positive note AP is now making a CB110 box rack. I like the insulating properties and the seclusion feeling of the dark plastic for the animals and for me they seem afordable with good quality construction.

For whatever reason, I still kind of like that Vision Rack look like you have. I guess it's the simplicity thing and individual heating option. Not real crazy about the look of the new racks they offer.

Why don't YOU build a light, strong, inexpensive rack utilizing a tub of 4'x2' that's modular? You could crank out a few hundred a year for friends..... right... "Buddy" ? LOL

Don't expect to see me in the rack building business anytime soon, LOL.

I can tell you that the size of this box does make it awkward for cage builders, DIY and professional alike. Access to 5'x10' sheets of material is a must to avoid waste. Or you'd have to use a framed design of some sort.

I would probably use something like Bighurt's design if I needed this box in a rack. Alas, I do not. But that's not a design that could really be retailed. Way to much labor.
