WEEK IN REVIEW!!!!!

toshamc Feb 17, 2006 02:26 PM

Stolen Snakes – Morton Wright had some Ivories, Albinos, Pastels and Super Pastels stolen from his collection. There is a reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the thieves. Reward started out at $20K and thanks to the generous donations of many continues to rise. Lets make sure that these people don’t get away with this. We wish Morton the best of luck getting these animals back safely.

Last week ended with a mite post from Amber - if anyone has had to deal with mites in a big collection – I’m sure you can appreciate the work she had to go thru. If you missed her post with pictures of what she and hubby scrubbed down – it’s worth a gander. Hope you got them all !! forums.kingsnake.com/view.php?id=1007647,1008415] Mite Thread

Official Thread from Hell: Legislators want tougher laws for reptile owners. Seems like this headline pops up at least once a month in a variety of states. The question is – will responsible pet owning really reduce the irrational fears of others? And where do you draw the line when it comes to who, what and how much to charge for owners or offenders? And lets face it there are 301 ways to circumvent the whole “permit” process – so is that really an “solution”?

Is this a yellowbelly? – No

Congrats to vwillisjr for his recent clutch hatch of VPI Axanthics – Stunning!

My Ball Python Blew Up – a request for opinions could it be two rats she just ate or ovulation? Keep us updated Allison.

Another Thread on het pied markers …. Is there any way we could get a link to the Hunters Guide posted at the top of the forum? www.nextworldexotics.com/hg.htm] The Hunters Guide to Morphs

You would have thought that a punnet square for pastel het hypo x het hypo would have been fairly easy for the genetics wizards in the forum – but this kinda confused some people. Way to over the head of this simpleton – the way I look at it is… you could get some pastels, pastel hets, pastel ghosts, ghosts or just plain normals – at this point do odds really matter? Odds are it will be a nice clutch.

What is this thing … Vanilla/Thunder, Woma, Just a nice reduced pattern?!?!?!?

Happy Valentines Day

Incubator fans – wow – who woulda thought there were so many opinions on incubator fans.

Jeremy learns about BP addiction (just wait until those eggs drop and you have to wait another 60 to see whats inside) LOL.

Silver Ghosts? - Honestly guys – they look a lot like green ghosts to me – but then butterscotch and orange look alike to me too. LOL – good luck with them!!

Off Topic – grab your hot coco – just looking at this picture makes me cold.

Are there any fatal morph combos – we’ve all heard the rumors about albinos, there are even rumors about Spiders. So the question is this …. Every season we see dozens of normal females sitting on clutches of 10-12 (or more) eggs – for the life of me I can’t remember a caramel albino or spider or pinstripe on a clutch larger than normal (6-8) can anyone else? So here’s my challenge – lets see if we can find the biggest clutched produced by two morphs. I’m betting it’ll be a bumblebee project, but it will be interesting.

Thread about safety of keeping your frozen rodents in with your people food. There were some pretty ghastly responses to this one – can someone say road kill.

OK even to the geekiest of geek herpers the Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers are just plain stupid – What were you thinking?!?!?!? LOL

Hemp bedding – ok since we keep seeing this question - I just gotta ask – is this really a necessary and useful bedding? Or is this just a marketing ploy to get some stupid person to put their animal on it so that they have a stoner ball?

Quote of the week: Hubby really dislikes the idea of rodents next to his ice cream - nita

After several really photo heavy weeks we have a slow one. Everyone must be recharging their Duracells!

I would like to say some things about the theft of animals, and the rewards offered up for info on those responsible. Let me say first that these are Ralphies ideas, but I agree with them 100%. The posting of the theft of the snakes on a national forum may at first seem like the logical first step. However it could be counterproductive. If the sorry bastard that stole these snakes watches ks he or she must now know that the whole bp community is looking for him or her. This would force them underground and delay the possible resale of the stolen animals which could lead the authorities the their identity. As was also said by ralph, this exposure could also lead to the destruction of the snakes. (Think destroy the evidence) As for rewards, these large sums of money offered for info actuall encourage future scumbag theives to steal ball pythons. (Jerk A steals the snakes, Jerk B turns him in. Jerk A serves a paltry jail or prison term. Both split the reward money.) Sounds far fetched and lowly, but it happens all the time. The better idea is to alert the authorities and sat 10 or 20 big names in the business, and hope for the best. Either way I hope the victim gets his her snakes back soon. Also I hope the thief or thieves resist arrest with guns giving cops justification to shoot to kill.

Be safe yall

I'm not saying I agree or disagree - but in all likelihood the theif knows the BP community and knows word would have been spread and people would be looking for him and the snakes - he would have to be a complete moron not to. With that being said, he probably either already has a buyer or has already planned to keep them for quite some time. If this is just a random act then it is unlikely that this person is familiar with KS or the BP community - but if he should stumble upon the forum in an attempt to sell the snakes - then the last thing that he needs to read is that his alternative option is to "destroy the evidence" - I'm sure Morton would rather have them returned no questions asked if it could be arranged. I also think Morton was wise to not publish the pictures - that way it limits the danger of his animals - no one is looking for anything specific but someone that may have recently aquired a large collection such as this. Word gets around quick here - with or without a public statement and reward. In the end I doubt that this will lead to kidnapping collections for ransom - $20K is not worth a rap sheet and if anything it will (hopefully) encourage others to be more careful with their collections.

Great week in review Tosha! I'm not a heavy poster here, but I'm a big lurker and love reading the review every week.

Here's hoping for a better weekend than last! So far, the mites have suffered a pretty strong defeat. I'm still finding a dead one here and there in the water bowls, but we definitely made an impact. My reptile relief still hasn't come in, so I will probably end up scrubbing down most of the drawers again this week and giving some more baths, but it shouldn't be anything like last week. Hopefully, I can put 0.0.0 mites in my signature post soon!!!

Official Thread from Hell: Legislators want tougher laws for reptile owners.

Maybe it was best that my computer has been dead for the past week. I tend to go off on this topic. I posted a rather long answer to someone on one of these threads in the Mexicana forum under the Kingsnake forums. When I talk politics, people see me as an extremist. Oh wait, that's because I tend to be an extremist.

It's not how many snakes you have. It's how happy and healthy you can keep them.
