Legal in Tennessee?

Becki71 Feb 17, 2006 02:30 PM

Hi everybody! Boy it has been awhile since I've been on here. We have moved to Tennessee and I still have Sam, my three year old Hermann Tort. I didn't even think to check and make sure that he is allowed to be here in Tennessee. Does anyone know if or where I can check to make sure it is okay for him to be here or if I'm breaking the law? If it is illegal what can I do? I have had him so long and love him dearly and it would just kill me to have to give him up. Thanks so much!

just don't sell your tortoise in TN and you should be fine. It is not legal to keep native TN turtle, or to sell chelonians as"pets" although the sale for food is fine.

Thank you! So what do you think would happen if he got sick and I had to take him to the vet? Do you think they would take him away? I'm going to keep him home and just not tell anyone we have him. I'm just worried that if he ever needs to go to the doctors we might be in trouble. He is from California...I have the reciept and everything to prove that I purchased him there. Maybe that will be okay. It might be like some states where they make the law but don't really enforce it. Thats what I'm hoping happens here! Thanks again!
