Leucistic X Translucent eggs....I can't wait

skmcwilliams Feb 17, 2006 02:58 PM

I just got 13 eggs from my trans X Leucy. I am so excited that I had to share. All eggs look fertile so now I have to be patient for 65-75 days and hope I don't mess anything up. I know I will only get double hets from the pairing, and you have to breed double hets together to make an acutal Leucistic trans butI REALLY hate inbreeding so if anyone else is out there working on this same pairing please let me know and we may be able to trade babies out to help make a stronger line. Pic is of the proud parents

This is going to be interesting, mega congrats. Let me know what happens, it's the 1 breeding that I wanted to do but never got around to before I got out of the beardies.

I donl't understand why you use leucistic as a genetic trait.
Leucistic is misplaced name, those dragons are hypomelanistic.

You will get double het dragons but they will be het for trans and het for hypo.

In this case leucistic is the name of the line they come from and isn't the genetic trait the dragons carry.
Kind of confusing but you have kevin Dunne to thank for that misplaced leucistic thing, I think.
When talking about genetic traits you don't use the name of the line.
The trait is hypomelanism i think you should use that instead.

You don't have dragons that are het for a certain line because het means that the genes are mixed already an will be mixed even mote when another dragons is used for breeding.

Good luck with the double het dragons

Boy do you know how to be a real kill joy

Actually I have studied up on my reptile genetics 101 and it was my fault for not saying "marketed" leucy. I always do but when I had posted this was like 15 minutes after having eggs and I was excited so sorry for not clarifying.

I understand that they will make a hypo trans but to me the "marketed" leucistic line does make a more true white animal then just the word hypo that is thrown out there and most of the time the beardie is the farthest thing from. I hope you can at least agree with that, if not then sorry.

I have talked with the best and they agree that these are going to be double het babies. Hypo trans are out there and they look amazing, definately different then regular trans so if you don't think those are two genetic differences being brought together then your crazy

I never said that the babies aren't going to be double het dragons, because they are going to be double het dragons.
Don't remember putting something like that in my reply though.
I know a thing or two about genetics, believe me.

I think the combo is one of the nicest there is.
I have seen a couple of hypotrans Joshua bred, trully stunning
I'm going to breed the hypotrans myself when my breeding group is the right age, don't want to rush things with them specials.
I took me a while to get my hands on good "unrelated" hypo's and trans.

I agree that the marketed leucistic line is more white then other hypo lines out there but that doesn't mean as a fact that there is something genetic going on.
It could very well be that those dragons have the recessive hypotrait and at the same time have the white color due to selective breeding.
From what i've seen the leucs don't stay white.
When you make hets form normals, color pops up eventually.
In other words, you can breed color into the leucs, so that kind of gives it away in my opinion.

sorry if I crashed you party mood, wasn't my intention at all.

I hope you will have nice healty babies from this breeding.

greetzzz from the netherlands......
