Rottenweiler9 Feb 17, 2006 08:05 PM

I am looking for either a Emerald Tree Boa, or Python.

Thank you

ETBs are the best
sure you don't need a doberman also????

Thank you, Ya I have wanted one for a long time. I kept getting other things instead but now I want one. What size cage does an adult need. Since they stay on the bars most of the time.

Ya know when I looked to get my first Rott I almost ended up with a Doberman. I like they way they look, sleak, but I went with the heavier more laid back one, and then well just like any pet lover you keep getting more and more.

Dobies are definitely not laid back. They love to play hard and I run mine for miles in the woods. But they are so sleek looking and still demand respect despite not having the bite strength of a rott. You learn to love your breed.

back to ETBs..
always get CBB if you can...much less grief.
they dont like big enclosures BUT I highly recommend using a Helix DBS1000 proportional thermostat and a ProProducts heat panel. Expensive but worth the investment for peace of mind.
I use a 20inchX20inchX30inch high for adults
here are some real useful links. My enclosure is acrylic drawer type and expensive $325 ...but one link has a cheap way of using sterilite type containers

they need good air circulation and not too hot

Its funny I feel that a Doberman is a little more intimidating then a Rott. I do like them though.

I have been reading up on the ETB's and see that there temps fluxuate and not to have it to hot. What should the temps be. Do they ever leave their perch to lay on the bottom.

How, Hot? I was looking at the PVC cages and see 40 watt heat panel attached with it, but I am wondering if that will be enough. I would keep it down in my basement. Right now I have an animal plastic cage that has the light the belly heat and a panel. I have a vision cage that has light belly heat and Heat panel. Of course those are 6 ft long. So I am trying to gage it correctly, so I do not run into problems.

CALL the ProProducts heat panel owner and ask what size would be best depending on basement ambient temps , cage size and construction and desired
daytime(76-82) and nighttime temp gradients (74-78)

Helix DBS1000 with nighttime drop cord and timer is invaluable

I would crap if I found my ETBs coiled on the bottom of the cage.
besides I use a water substrate changed every 2 days. No cypress mulch to grow bugs or end up in the ETBs mouth

Wow, actually those temps I can maintain easy. I was also reading that you spray them at night or in the morning?

Thanks again

We also use water as a substrate for our emeralds. Humidity is achieved with out having to spray. We mist the enclosure (not the snake)when we are trying to stimulate breeding. Now that we have a designated snakeroom, we control the temp and humidity of the whole room. We can make adjustments to individual enclosures as necessary.

I hope its understood that i meant you need to keep a gradient
when I said "daytime(76-82) and nighttime temp gradients (74-78)"
Thant means there should always be one portion of the cage that is heated to that higher temp for AM(82) and for PM(78).
I am sure you realize this but others may not.
