he has been partitioned off from his big brother who is 3 times his size. not because he was being picked on but cant eat fast enough. lol. maybe he'll catch up now. they are eating cut up minnows and frozen krill. i haven't been able to get them to eat pellet food yet but have ordered some mazuri croc diet through a local feedstore. we'll see.

how does that work for the snappers?

ive been putting my snappers on a more whole animal based diet, much like a crocodilian diet. i have a caiman right now, and ive been considering getting some croc pellets and splitting those between my snappers and my caiman.

hey Greg, Dewback(Jonathon) told me about it. he feeds it to his caimans and snappers. natures coast exotics in flordia also sales it by the pound on their website. they also said snappers would eat it. the mazuri website sells the pellets and the gel that you mix and freeze. i ordered a 40lb bag of the croc large pellets(through a feedstore) and i hope my big snappers will eat it too. mazuri also has a carnivorus reptillian and amphibian diet along with their turtle and croc diets. i've been thinking about buying their flamingo diet to mix in to bring out better colors.

I don't think the flamingo diet will have an effect on your turtle's colours. Flamingos derive there colour rather differently than most animals and if deprived of this element, they're rather white. On the other hand, while we know that many colours are genetic in reptiles, we don't have a full understanding for every species.

On an aside, do you find that alligator snappers are more difficult to switch away from live food than common's?

my two '05 hatchlings are eating fresh killed minnows and frozen krill but no pellet food yet. my '04 hatchling was a variable garabage disposable(had to hibernate him because he was eating me out of house and home, lol)even eating can corn as a baby. they're all individuals but generally speaking yes i believe allys like live food as hatchlings more so than commons. and probably take a little longer to switch over to pellet foods. by the way i have found certain diets to intensify the skin color of pinkskin snappers much like the color enhancing foods used for tropical fish(not that it changes them from white to red but intensifies the pink coloration). i've used tetra gammmera supreme for this purpose.the mazuri croc diet is very good for them if they'll eat it. on the croc forum some say their alligators love it but some caimans wont touch it. thanks for your input, Steve

My snapper seems to prefer the mazuri croc pellets to the mazuri turtle pellets. One thing that I have noticed with both my crocs and my alligator snapper is that the croc food seems to make their waste a bit thicker. That seems to be the only drawback so far. Both diets are a complete diet so I don't think you have to worry about them getting less of a nutrient load. It actually makes feeding a lot easier.

Also, you might want to try the different sizes of croc pellet depending on the size of your turtle. I use the small size but the large ones may or may not be more appropriate.

My alligator snappers seem to suck down the Mazuri carnivorous turtle diet like there is no tomorrow. As the turtles get bigger I will most likely just use some croc diet for them as there really isn't much of a difference in the makeup of the croc diet vs. the carnivorous turtle diet. I agree, it certainly makes feeding much easier. Now if I could just get my caiman to eat the stuff, he absolutely REFUSES.
