New UVB bulb on the market

jakeyjakers Jul 26, 2003 10:36 PM

Zoomed has recently come out with a new mercury vapor UVB bulb called PowerSun UV. It, supposedly gives good UVB rays for distances up to 6 feet. I was wondering if by any chance anyone has heard of this or used it? If it is a good thing, then it sounds like something I'd like to try. I am building Guano a new enclosure, and I don't feel like having 50 repti-sun bulbs in there if i can use something better.

Hi Jake,

I started using a PowerSun bulb at the beginning of this month. Before starting this bulb, I'd been using the T-Rex ActiveUVHeat bulb.

I definately like the PowerSun better. It gives off a cleaner looking light, and my iguana, Myka, seems to actually like the light more than her last one. She looks greener, and seems more active.

If I were you, I'd give it a try! If you do, let me know what you think!

Good luck!

Wendy

I use the uvheat bulbs. They were the first of their kind to hit the market. They came out a couple years before zoomed and t-rex developed theirs which are just a replica of the original uvheat bulb. I use the uvheat bulb on my iguana, it seems to work well, hes active, eats a lot, and very colorful. I purchased the t-rex model for my turtles and it worked wlel also, howver after onluy 2 months it just quit working, and i lost the receipt. So i just ordered a uvheat bulb for the turtles, i think the uvheat is better than the t-rex, ive never used a zoomed powersun though.

On the PowerSun box, it says that the bulb has an average life expectancy of 10 000 hours. That's pretty good!
