Horned frog baby's

Vicky_Rut Feb 18, 2006 02:58 PM

I got 2 cranwelli hornedfrogs few day's ago,
and I am quite worried since one of them isn't eating...
I feel he is getting skinnier

I've been trying to feed him (and feeding the other one) small
mealworm thingies... (note I live in Iceland and Crickets are not awailable).
Any sugestions? I feel they are a tad to smal for pinky's yet...

Here are pics...

The albino is the one not eating,
(I keep them in seperate tanks, with moister, moss and fresh water each day).

Any suggestion and tips are very welcome and most needed!

Hugz Vicky

Ohh but I doo have access to these...

Are they as good as the exo terra site says?

I would add a fake plant for the albino to have cover, it might be stress that he's not eating. Don't pick him up and touch him too much, but I'm sure you know that. I'm not sure with those canned foods, do you just feed the insects with the canned food and then the pacman frogs eat the insects? Or do you just plop some canned food in front of your frogs to eat? Let me know if your albino baby does okay. below is my setup, and my pacman frog always lays under the fake plant for more security.

The cans are full of dried out, dead crickets. I don't know how nutritious they are, but you can probably hand feed those fairly easily.

I'll try the plant thing, I have some live aqatic platnts
that do well above water in moist enviroment, thanks for the tip,
This is what the poor things set up looks like now...

I alos bought one of these canned mealworms
just to see what it was like, the green froggie ate it right away...
This is what they look like, I was suprise about the qualiti...

and a live one... to compare..

They looked really good for some canned thingies
but I do prefer the living I think.
But atleast I could supliment with canned crickets every now
and then since I can not get live crickets at all...

If tong/hand feeding your pacman isn't a problem you could try guppies, or small feeder goldfish(commets). If guppies are available they're incredibly easy to breed, and make a great replacement for pinkies when horned frogs are small.
A pacman could probably eat any of the canned bugs available. The only problem i've had in the past with those cooked canned bugs is that once it's been opened it molds over in a few days.

The albino is shedding his skin,
doesn't that explain the loss of appetide? (sp?)

I keep the canned thingies in the frigde,
hope it slows down in there...
Otherwhise I'll just have to freeze em...
I have some platty's myself so I'll just
wait for the next 'litter' and give the
froggies some of that, thanx 4 that tip
(since I've had the plattys for ages and know their healthy)

The yellow one is doing great
Eats plenty and looks happy, I named him/her Gardulla :b
and the green one Jabba
Here are some pics...

Gardulla eating a canned grashopper...

So is Jabba...

Gardulla finally discovered his/hers water dish

Comparing size.. though it probably doesn't make much
sense to anyone that's not been to Iceland...

Gardulla's settings

Jabba's settings.

Thanks for the help everyone!
Ciao!
