Can I put 2 adult females together?

bluebug32 Feb 18, 2006 08:18 PM

I have a female leo in a 20gal. long with lots of hiding spots. I want to buy another female leo in. They are similar in size. I know you have to introduce them slowly over time. Any tips? Is this a good idea overall?

First you will need to quarantine the new one for 30-60 days, preferably 60, to make sure she doesn't have parasites. Have a fecal done at the vets, when you get her and again before you introduce her to the other female. Before introducing, clean and rearrange the viv so it is new to both of them, and neither is going to dominate over it. Females can be housed together, but be prepared to separate if there is any bullying. Sometimes females won't get along, but you won't know till you put them together and watch how things are for a few weeks. Make sure that both are getting enough food, and have their own hides.

Most people quaratine new Leopard Geckos for about 3 months. So if you buy another, I wouldn't rush on getting her into the cage with the other one. As far as introducing them I haven't had any problems with two females together as long as there is plenty of hides to go around. A 20 long should provide plenty of room for two geckos.
