Seattle Woodland Park Zoo- Komodo DRAGONS!

http://www.zoo.org/

I visited Seattle's Woodland Park Zoo today because of my wife's increasing desire to do so. I couldn't stop her naggin' so I drove I am glad she wanted to go so much.

There is this huge Komodo Dragon exibit with two wonderful and huge komodos. If I had no concept of religion, I would start worshipping them right there! Beautiful giants!

I hope someday in the future their numbers will increase so that private captive collections would be allowed.

(There is an illegal farm in Saudi Arabia but I wouldn't dare... (maybe not 'till I go back to Turkey permanenly ))

There was also a reasonably good reptile exibit with gators, rattlers, a beautiful gaboon viper, a pair of mangroves, some eyelash vipers, gila monsters (another favourite of mine...I am cursing the day I sold my gilas) and a HUGE king cobra!

Also there is a nice insect excibit with a giant goliath bird eater and much more.

Well, it was a wonderful 3 hours. At the end my wife was still talking about how cute the baby bears were as I was dreamin' about the dragons.

Yasin

ps: I wish I had my camera with me but I will definately visit there again with a pro camera. But I am gonna attach some dragon pics that they took.

I'll never forget the day I first say a Komodo at the Minnesota zoo. WOW! Seattle is actually closer, I think I"ll take the drive

It's starting to spill over where Komodo's are available to non-AZA facilities, but the day that private keepers are in the picture is still well over the horizon.

Can't get enough of them dragons!

in Ohio has 3 Adult Komodo dragons. It's really nice because they have indoor and outdoor facilities for them. Absolutely fascinating animals indeed!

Paul Huang, one of the herp keepers at the Albuquerque Zoo in NM was kind enough to show us behind the scenes at the zoo, including the two adult Komodos he takes care of. There's very little that can compare to being inches away from a giant adult Komodo with only a metal grating separating you.

Paul is a great guy...last time I was in Abq. (purchased a canebrake from him and drove up there to pick it up), I think he was working with the primates at the zoo.
