denting veiled eggs

twofrogsnchams Feb 18, 2006 09:14 PM

some of the eggs from the first clutch (now a month old!) are denting badly. i am adding water to the vermiculate every day to help hydrate them. it seems to be working with most except for a few eggs that just are filling back up. are these eggs duds? they arent moldy or anything, just very dented. i have read to incubate every egg all the way through because you never know what could hatch out. but are there any signs of dud eggs this far into incubation? thanks.

As long as they aren't molding, keep trying with them. Some people don't give up even if they do mold, they just sprinkle some tough actin Tinactin on them and keep going. If they are just dented, they are probably dehydrated rather than bad. So keep going with them. Another thing you can try is to change out the vermiculite entirely. Add new vermiculite and 75% water to the weight of the vermiculite. That is a little bit on the moist side but it will help plump the eggs back up.
