heat tape for sweater boxes

nygaboon Jul 26, 2003 11:32 PM

Ok. I have two 18 quart sterilite sweater boxes that need to be heated. Never used heat tape before but I'm considering it. I've got the two boxes and a 1/2 10 gallon tank on a rack and I'd like to heat all three with one source. Will it heat them effectively and/or will it melt the plastic?

I'm not an expert but I do know that Flexwatt works great for me. I got it from www.beanfarm.com and I'm using it now to heat my Rubbermaid shoeboxes. But be advised that it needs a dimmer switch or thermostat to keep the heat tape from overheating and melting. I have a ReptiTherm 500R that you can find for $25-$30 or you can go to Home Depot and get a dimmer for $5, but it will take some wiring if you go with the dimmer switch. It will take some wiring to put the Flexwatt together too. Hope this helps!
