What will outcome of Blazing BlizardXPatternless be?

ocar Feb 19, 2006 09:38 PM

So far i have a bell albino and a patternless male and i am planning to get a blizzard to breed with the patternless if they will produce something other than a normal. Is there any way for a patternless to be able to produce something other than patternless or a normal heterozygous for something?

(Blazzing blizard x patternless = normal het albino, blizard, patternless).

(Blizzard x patternless = normal het blizzard & patternless).
BUT if you breed the (normal het blizz & patty x normal het blizz & patty = normals, blizzards, patternless,AND BANANA BLIZZARDS).

If you breed.
Normal het albino, blizzard, patternless x normal het albino, blizard, patternless = all these are possible.
normals,blizards,patternless,banana blizards,albinos,albino patternless,blazzing blizards,and BLAZZING BANANA BLIZARD.

Im actually crossing the patty, albino and blizzard gene into one gecko and making it homozygous. Im taking a LV albino het bliz X LVPA and getting 50% LV albino het for bliz and patty. Then taking the LV albino het for bliz and patty together and getting 1/16 blazing banana blizzards!!! This has never been done before. With a normal het bliz patty adn albino you would have a 1/64 chance of a blazing banana blizzard.

Are you breeding the 50% LV albino het for bliz and patty to another blizzard to test for "het blizzard" genes first?

If not, the chance of randomly choosing the right pair of double hets (among the single het lookalikes) is 1/2 x 1/2 = 1/4. From there 1/16 of the offspring will be blazing banana blizzards and your overall odds would still be 1/64 (1/4 x 1/16).

Just curious. I assume "het testing" is a common technique to prevent yourself from becoming knee deep in hatchlings before seeing results. Never done this before myself.

My bad

The post I replied to was older than I thought. Nevermind... unless someone wants to answer my question regarding "het testing". In particular, how many offspring would you create to be "reasonably sure" if you haven't seen the recessive quality show up yet? 16 for a 1 in 4 chance???
