BREEDING QUESTION

reptilehouse Jul 26, 2003 11:47 PM

I have had all my girls in with my one male and wanted to start puting some of the girls with a diferent male.

Do I need to keep my females seperated from any males till I put them in with a new male. How will I know if the eggs they keep laying are from which male then?

Why would you want to change their set up now? I seperate all my males and only make any adjustments to the breeding colonies in the winter. Besides, Colonies don't always get along with the males. If your girls are fine with the male they're in with, they may not be with the other male.
Also, if you put them with different males you may never know who the father is without DNA. It reminds me of this old girlfriend.....

once a female has been bred I won't matter. Whichever male got her first is going to be the daddy

So if I take my females out then for the next years they will still produse eggs from the same male? Thats not rite, right? I only have one male at the time old enough to breed with them but wanted to put them with another one of my males to get other blood lines.

I have a blizzard in with a tremper albino but wanted to get her a blizard male.

There ahs to be a time they can be given a new male right?

Oh no, of course you can breed her to differnt males in following seasons. Once a female is bred though all her eggs that she will lay ( 6 to 10 clutches, 2 eggs each per season) will all be fertilized by that male. Once a male fertilizes a female her seasonal clutch will all be fertiized. Next year you can put her with a differnt male and all will be fine. If she is not bred now you can still take her out and then breed her with a differnt male. I hope this is what you need to know. Sorry if I did not explain it real well.
