"Snakes on a Plane" Movie - more ridiculous snake films...

Colchicine Feb 20, 2006 07:55 AM

As if we don't have to deal with enough BS from the misrepresentations of snakes already, Hollywood is working on yet another movie that will demonize snakes.

"Neville Flynn (Samuel L. Jackson) and Sean Jones (Nathan Phillips), FBI agents, escort John Saunders (Mark Houghton), a former mafia member to testify in a highly publicized case. In the course of a flight between Hawaii and California, an assassin releases hundreds of poisonous snakes in the hope of killing the witness."

Just look at the picture on the website, just a bunch of cheap looking rubber snakes everywhere. I won't get started on how unbelievable the plot is. Could you really depend upon a reptile to be an effecient and effective weapon??

Apparently, one of the "poisonous snakes" in the movie was a Burmese Python.

Great, another stupid snake haters movie. And I had respect for Samuel L. Jackson up to this point.
It will be another case of misidentified (like the Florida King attacking that guy) and badly treated snakes being abused for film again.

What worries me more than the rubber snakes is that the green snakes in the guys lap look like emaciated real snakes to me.

Hopefully after years of the Animal Planet, Steve Irwin and the like, most of the public won't be easily taken. When family members now see any snake in a scene from a movie even though they're not into snakes theres a cycnical " That's just a Retic or corn snake...(insert fav snake) my brother used to keep those when I was a kid"... Hopefully some inroads have been made.

Good point. Also there's the fact that the movie's name is "Snakes on a Plane". Frankly, it looks stupid enough I'm hoping that even nimwits will know it's stupid. Of course I can just imagine having to reassure my dear brother if he sees it (who while smart is overprotective enough that he was worried about me raising carnivorous plants) that no, my Cal King isn't a Bandy Bandy and doesn't throw the world or my life in jeopardy. So here's hoping that the public at large recognizes a B-grade movie as being such and takes it with a grain o salt.

the thing I found sad was the interview with the person/company that is supplying the snakes (it was in one of the reptile magazines a couple of months ago). He said that they are going to use some corn snakes as stand-ins for tipans... He said only snake people would notice the difference. That may be true but isn't there enough misconceptions about snakes to have a corn snake doing stand-ins? Next thing you know they will be typecast as dangerous and poisonous (yes I know venomous... but would the non-snake people know it???)
