Proud new owner of baby Egyptian

jaffar311 Feb 20, 2006 09:03 AM

So I went to Lee's Reptile swap this weekend hoping to find a Female Ornate close to breeding size. This was completely wishful thinking of course but I figured it was worth the shot. There was a guy that had three yearling Ornates which were a little smaller then what I was looking for but I checked them out and of course the one that appeared to be female was the skinniest of the group so even though he offered me a great deal and the guy has a good reputation from what I know I still passed on her. One of the males was beautiful though but I couldn't get him to give me a good on him. We are talking almost solid blue with yellow bars across the back for a yearling (5-6 inches total length).

I figured my day was done so I my way out I checked with another guy who always gets random Uro's from time to time and sure enough he had a baby Egyptian and by baby I mean it. This thing can't be anymore then a couple months old and is very fat. I already had the new setup for a female ornate so I got the little guy since I have always wanted Egyptians. He told me he could get more babies from his "breeder" so I may get another in the next swap or two if all goes well with Tank (his/her name so far). I have purchased monitors from him in the past and he was always pretty honest with me and he has had the same table at the swap for the past 10 years I have been going. I'll get a picture and weight hopefully this weekend. I brought him home and put him right in the enclosure after a soak and I didn't want to stress him out anymore. Just a few quick mods to the tank for the size of hides and everything was good to go. It was initially set up for a temporary so I had paper towels for the bottom already too.

Sorry for the long post I am just a little excited! I need to change my signature now!

i also got a baby baby when i purchased my egyptian, like his belly button hole hadn't even closed yet but he has been growing like a weed.

i just hope your guy is nicer to you than xoco is to me! we are working on it but it seems like it is taking forever. perhaps if there weren't screaming children around he would not freak out as much.

can't wait till i have a job and can live alone again

From original post...

"...his belly button hole hadn't even closed yet..."

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought only placental mammals have belly buttons.

Hes a fine looking lil fellow. Really cute. Love his face!

As far as belly bottons, yes they have one even though they were in an egg. They are attached to the yolk/sac by an umbilical cord.

Thats how they are noursihed while in the egg. AMAZING

I've read that Egyptians have a little attitude but that won't bother me if it's the case with Tank because I hardly ever hold my Uro's. My male Ornate (Techno) is really the only one I'll hold but he seems to want to be taken out sometimes, it's hard to explain but even Lindsay had him listed as "unusually tame" so I got him and that was 3 years ago this may!

and didn't take photo's right away and I should have weighed the little guy too but I didn't want to keep him out of the enclosure any longer then I had to. I'll try and get a pic of him/her out and about otherwise it'll have to wait until he/she is settled in.
