odd color loss

lele Feb 20, 2006 11:30 AM

Hi all,

Darwin is a translucent with citrus bloodline so he shows some nice orange along his sides and especially his ears. Yesterday, I noticed that the orange around his right ear is completely gone! It is just white. The left side is fine. I was thinking maybe the beginning of a shed but it is an odd place to begin - at least I have never seen this before in him. He has not shed since late summer when he entered his semi-brumation. I have uploaded some pics for comparison - see link.

thanks!

I know translucents have a funny way of changing color when they get older. Due to their skin growing thicker. But that little patch looks like it might just be the start of a new shed. I wouldnt worry too much.

peace,
nate

Hi nate,

thanks for the quick reply. I considered shed and maybe I am just forgetting since it has been so long! lol! He has been eating a bit more but has only gained 2or4g. I'll just watch and won't worry yet He had his one year birthday on Feb 10th

thanks,
lele

A lot of times beardies will have a post burmation shed. It kinda gives them a fresh set of skin for the spring . Congrats on the b day for him.

peace,
nate

I agree with nate. Looks to be a start to a shed. It is weird that just the ear area is shedding, but through the years I've seen it quite a few times with my dragons.
