Is she bored?

obsolescenttears Feb 20, 2006 12:57 PM

I was wondering if beardies played with toys. I think my girl is bored and wonder if there is anyway to give her something to do.

I dont have much money but I want to buy another of her clutch mates so she can have someone to sit on. ( he he) But anyway other than getting another dragon is there much I can do? Its winter in Minnesota ( durr) so its cold and I cant keep her out of her cage much because its really cold in our place.

Any ideas?

a new dragon to put in her cage would not be a good ideal. it just brings up a whole new slew of potential problems.

there aren't many toys for bearded dragons as they are not lizards that play with toys. adding more climbing surfaces, fake plants, rocks etc to the cage will give them something new to explore as would just rearranging the cage contents. you could also try simple toys to see if the dragon does take an interest...just make sure the toys are dragon safe, too big to swollow, not heavy enough to potentially injure your dragon, etc.

not sure if it would actually be used, but you could always try putting a light rubber ball, big enough so the dragon can't eat but not so huge if it rolls down his back or limbs it won't injury him. those soft spongy balls might be fine, just make sure it can't be bit, as the spongy bits if swollowed could cause problems. not sure if the dragon would have any interest in pushing the ball around or would ignore it like a round rock. hard to say what interests a dragon to play with.

I'm going to suggest some LED lights. Dragons are crazy for light bugs (Which are TOXIC). My dragons get to come out and sit on my desk while I work during the day. The always walk over to my Wireless mouse cradel/charger and try and eat the yellow LED light that flashes. They have been after it for 20 minutes at a time.

Just an idea. Maybe you could buy soemthing like that at a computer store. Some little LED lights. Or even a mini strand of those flashing christmas lights and rig up some sort of toy by hidding the wires.
