new to Geckos...

stanleytl04 Feb 20, 2006 07:04 PM

I have a bearded dragon, a veiled cham, a russian tort, 2 RES, 1 YBS, and 1 Razorback musk turtle. I am looking to get into Geckos, I was wondering what is a good species for a starter that is pretty and possibly a Day gecko. I was thinking about an albino leopard. I was also curious as to what taking care of a Gecko actually involves.

Well, I've heard people say that novice-friendly species are harder to care for than a rock, but easier than a dog. This is a pretty accurate description of most beginner geckos. In, regards to species, if you want a beautiful and also handleable pet, Leopard Geckos and African Fat Tailed Geckos are a good choice. If you want something arboreal, a Crested Gecko would be great. I don't want to sound biased, its just that I've had more experience with those three than with Day Geckos. However, if Day Geckos really appeal to you, you might want to look into either Madagascar Giant or Gold Dust Day Geckos, both of which are good starter species. I hope this has been of some help to you. If you have any more questions, you're welcome to email me or just reply here.

I am still in the market, I don't want to impulse buy. I am taking my time with this but you did help me a great deal. Thanks and if I have anymore questions I won't hesitate to ask. Thanks again.
