Everglades ratsnake info needed.

oregonherpaholic Feb 20, 2006 09:31 PM

Hello all... Just rescued what I believe is an everglades ratsnake..from a very horrible petshop.(They called it an orange ratsnake) They were keeping her in a desert(leopard gecko style) setup.. Very dry.. She is VERY thin... Is recovering from dry/damaged scale due to the lack of humidity.. But I really do not know just how much humidity is needed for this species. I do keep/breed cornsnakes, but not sure if I should treat this animal the same way.

What type of enclosure should this snake have?? Tall or long cage?? What humidity level should the tank be at?? What else should I know about the species?? This animal is more than likely wild caught.. I will get a fecal done as soon as I get one..has yet to eat for me.

Any other advice?? I will also post this on the cornsnake forum..for better fedback.

Thanks in advance,

Bjo

It should be kept exactly like your corns. It will probably enjoy climbing a little more than your corns though. Also keep the humidity up a little so it can rehydrate itself a little and make sure it's next shed is a good one so it can heal those scales!

a lukewarm daily soak would probably help now,for say 10 min. at atime, over the next week or two-not too deep!(stress goes up,will do more harm than good)....yeah like was said, conditions for a corn is fine....for the record,i would say keep humidity between 40-60%,maybe an occasional misting every couple days, but with the soaks that may not be needed...clean water at all times....good hot spot and temp. gradient....several hides,on warm and cool sides-this will bring stress down, and increase/expedite feeding response.but don't panic if it lays off the food for a minute,it's recouping in this new posh 'suite',lol.
