Hi,
I hope somebody can give me some advice with this, although it seems the other turtle forums are more popular. Anyway, my baby diamondback terrapin has been sick for quite some time now. He seems to be outgrowing his shell--meaning he's pudgy all around but his shell is curling, very soft, and just not growing as fast. I have taken him to a qualified vet 3 times already and the recommendations were to change his diet to a more nutritious one (i've been feeding mostly reptomin) and getting a new stronger UVB bulb (Zoo Med). I've kept him in quarantine with a shallow pan of water that I change everyday.
His condition hasn't improved, in my opinion. And just today, I found out one of his scutes was cracked...and led to his bleeding from the gaps. I administered neosporin, cranked up the heat and UVB light and am now keeping him dry as possible. I believe one of the reasons that his shell condition may be deteriorating may be due to a combination of bacteria and fungus attacking his already malnourished shell. Finally, I was keeping his quarantine pan next to the bathroom sink, which might have contributed to his illness due to the high humidity. I have now moved him to a table top where it's much drier.
Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.
