How hard is it to find Egyptians?

dewkitty Feb 21, 2006 03:08 AM

I ask this because I was in a reptile store in San Diego today chatting with the manager.

I tell him about my 12 year old Egyptian and he starts telling me how rare they are now and they are
no longer being imported blah blah and they are worth so much money.

Know I swear I just saw some baby Egyptians at, at least 3 pet stores this month for $100.

Is this guy just ill informed or am I?

He also suggested giving him dried cranberries and fruits.. and said his stool should be very dry.. My guys stool has never been dry.. more like a birds droppings. Is this ok??

Your thoughts?

At least in my opinion, there not that 'rare' my local pet shop in town always has them, they have carried them now for months

I have noticed people seem to be able to find them pretty easily now, I just got Mosca about a year and a half ago, and I had been searching for about 2 years to find one. I also was only interested in one from a reputable breeder too though. I don't see Uros in pet stores very often around here anyway, so I may just be in a "bad" location.

it seems like now that i have an egyptian, they are everywhere, ha ha.
fruits should be limited because of the high sugar content, like it could be given to them as a treat, but i have yet to find something sweet my uros will eat (wow, that rhymes too much!)

poop that stays in my lizard cages is dried out, but any poop ever coming out of them has been moist. usually it is in a barrel shape. runny (and stinky) poo can be a sign of parasites. however, since our uros eat more hydrated food than probably in the wild, they might expel more water, making things a little gooey
