help with mata-mata setup

megalon Feb 21, 2006 08:02 AM

i'm new to this forum,so please bear w/ me.i recently acquired a 5" mata, and i can't seem to find much info on proper setup.at the moment,it's setup in the same manner as my ally snapper,as most sites i've visited suggest their habits and lifestyles are very similar.right now,it's setup in a 10 gal, with about 5" of water, weak filtration(just enough to provide a weak current),a hide log,and plenty of loose plastic plants for cover.next month i am moving into a bigger house, and both turtles will upgrade to 20 longs.the mata & ally(4",btw) both eat wild caught minnows, small bream (1-2",grass shrimp, and small crayfish.is this about right or do i need to adjust the mata's setup?oh,before i forget,i don't use any bottom substrate,do partial water changes weekly, and total water changes as needed.

matas like a low ph , around 5 to to higher than 6 should do. You can buy drops for that. Mata will outgrow your 20 gal pretty quick.
