question

raisnok Feb 21, 2006 08:11 AM

i was noticing on 2 of my normal corns nuit who is the newer younger one, his whole belly is white with the normal checker board pattern.
degei who is an 04 snake, looks similar to nuit, but degei's belly at the tail is orange, is that normal for some common corns to have an orange belly? i just noticed it today as i was checking who is ready to go into shed.
you can see in the top photo where her tail is wrapped around my finger it is orange..... the very bottom pic is nuit, that pic he looks like a miami sort of, but now since he has grown more he has more orange on his back....
i think i have read some where that only okeetees have the red tail, but im not sure if i remember that right.... when i bought degei i bought a "normal corn" but the girl also had amels and snows in the tub that day....... she really didnt know what types of corns she had.....

Hi, I'm not corn expert at all, and I'm sure you will get good info here. But that bottom snake looks kind of silver yes? And if all red or orange on it's belly "no black checkers", that is a sign of a bloodred trait. But it may be a trait of others I am not sure. Bloodred is a very mysterious snake, either multiple alleles "genes" or incomplete dominance. I know most say co-dominant but that is not correct IMHO.

Anyway, it may have some bloodred in it. A VERY GOOD THING.

Take more pics and close ups of the head side and belly.

no that snake has no silver in him.... that pic of the last snake was nuit , he is a normal im sure of that.... as he got older he turned orange..... i will make replies to this with each snake.

raisnok Feb 21, 2006 12:17 PM

this is nuit, he is a normal common corn.

raisnok Feb 21, 2006 12:21 PM

this is degei this is the snake i am wondering about the orange tail, you can see the orange where her tail is wrapped around my forefinger in the first photo and in the third photo her tail is around my thumb.

raisnok Feb 21, 2006 12:23 PM

these are naaza, he is a miami phase and my favorite snake because he was my first corn.

"his whole belly is white"

Is what you said, I mis read that. But a clear belly with NO black checks is not normal, as far as I know. Pics look normal. And corns vary in color, northern more dull florida more color, jasper county oaks.

Hit a few big corn sites and compare pictures.

Nice snakes, hope you have fun.

you didnt read the whole thing i think.......
"his whole belly is white with the normal checker board pattern."
what my statement
my question was about degei, not nuit, i am 100% sure nuit is a common corn.

I thought the posts were not correct, but I read it all when I was in a hurry. Both of My normals does have orange at the end of his tail. I am going to have to say it is normal. Minealso have the orange mixed in with the black and white checkers
