Another incubator fan question

JM Feb 21, 2006 10:13 AM

I've built my incubator~ the plans I followed call for a fan~ I've got hot and cold spots in the incubator so I definately need a fan.............

I bought a fan~ a small computer fan as I've seen suggested......Ummmmmm..............

How do I wire this thing up to a 110v plug?

I think I need some idiot proof instructions please~ ummmmm....I actually bought TWO fans. Rated 12vDC, 0.11A....I wired one of them to a 12vDC plug (from some old video game)....and then quickly unplugged it when it started to smoking!!!!(threw it out!!) So~ I think I have the idea~ I need to convert the 110vAC current to 12vDC current~ but HOW to do that when I can't find ANY DC plugs with this little three pin plug thats on the fan???

Help please.
Thanks!

If you have an old cpu laying around you can use the power supply from it. I done this in the past and it works good.

Hope this helps.

Hey Cheryl,a few of us here were going over that not to long ago.The milli-amp power rating on the dc converter has to be higher than the fans draw on it(.11 is 110mA).Otherwise...chernobyl.

A buddy of mine has the first one i hooked up running in his incubator already...It was made with a 12 volt/350mA dc converter and a 150mA fan(which reads as .15). The dc converter i plan to use is 12volt and 1200mA.So it should never even get warm...

...not sure about the fan connection deal.
Could be a second power connect(so the power can run on through to another fan,etc..in a pc.)

My recomendation: Take the fan to Radioshack and let the guy behind the counter get you the proper plug in transformer. They'll have the kind that plug directly into the fan pluggy thingy (sorry for the technical terminology)as you requested.

Thanks all!

I suspected amperage was my problem~ but I wasn't sure how to fix the problem!

Radio shack~ I'll try that. I went to Best Buy~ told them what I wanted and they were completly useless. Didn't have any that were 120volt (you know thats what I want now that I know radio shack has them!) And for the PC fan they couldn't get past "why don't you just plug it into the port on the PC?" BECAUSE I told you three times already I don't want to USE IT in the PC!

Radio shack~ Thanks!
