Mercury vapor bulbs?

snakecharmed Jul 27, 2003 03:38 AM

Hi everyone,
does anybody know where I can find these online? Also, if you have used these before, I would like to know what you think about them. I have some baby beardies due to hatch any day and would love to get a few of these bulbs and see how they compare to the tube UV fixtures that I have been using. All info would be greatly appreciated! Thanks, Christy

You can get them at almost any online reptile supply site, I get mine from bigappleherp.com

They are very hot, and require a minimum distance of 12 inches AWAY from the bulb, and project UVB up to 6 feet away. They are usually used in very large enclosures, such as my 11x7x5 foot water dragon room, not in a small tank. They do produce 6 times more UVB than a tube, but in a small tank flourescents are probably your best bet.

I agree! The tubes would be safer for baby dragons. Reptiledirect.com has them for the best price, at least that I've found.
Take care,
Karen
