A pair of bloods

schroderal Feb 21, 2006 03:46 PM

Hi,
The male, which is in the first and second photos had been breed to the gravid female I had posted her photo below on a prior date. He now is with another female. This pair of bloods have been in this hide box together(photo three)for at least two weeks. I have not observed them copulating. I have not even obseved them exit this box during this time. So, I have hope these two are breeding. All three of my bloods are CB2000 from VPI. They have been alot of fun to raise up since they were hatchlings. Bloods are my favorite snakes.
I have a question for the experienced breeders out there. What is the best method of removing eggs from a gravid female blood?

Thank You,
Alan

That is one gorgeous male, nice!
I have never had a problem removing female from eggs. I just take out the nest box, open it gently uncoil the female from the eggs and put her back in her enclosure. My female is a real sweatheart anyway but she has never been too protective of her clutch.
One thing though they will roam their cage looking for thier eggs for a while after removing them, kinda sad to watch, but I know they are in good hands.

Hi,
Thank you for the info. My gravid female is darkening and dulling up in color just like she always does just prior to a shed cycle. So her prelaying shed is getting near. Your info is very important and I appreciate it. Here is her photo again.
As for the male he has some good genes for color. His father was a VPI T positive Albino. I saw a picture of the mother, she was either Tracy Barker's red lilly or lipstick female. I forgot it was a while ago, it was a year 2000 breeding.

Thanks again
Alan

Wow!
yeah Id say she is gravid!
I would expect her to lay about 3 weeks after her shed my female averages about 25 days after.
Good luck, looks like she has a big clutch in her wait till you see how big her eggs are!

Hey,
I've noticed that most females after laying, will be less active and more inclined to want to rest than anything else, despite the experience. Removing the female should be easy, unless you otherwise, have a combative female to begin with. They are usually easily removed with little to no resistance at all. Take great care while removing her, that there are no egg's in her coil when lifting her though, that can drop or fall from her coil and become damaged. Check carefully when lifter for egg's trapped in the coil.
I prefer to not place her back into the same enclosure, but to have a temporary cage or tub to put her into, while I prepare the egg's and have time to then clean her enclosure to remove all scent of the egg's.

In life you can fall many times, but you're only a failure, if you don't try to get back up!
