New Tegu Help

SnakesandScales Feb 21, 2006 04:49 PM

I just got a new black and White Tegu he is about 15 1/2 inches and he was very active at his previous owners but the owner did want him and didnt know what he was getting into so I rescued him. but when I took him home he dug into the cypress and stays there I offered him some apples and some mealworms he didnt want either. Is it possable for him to want to burmate the day I took him home or could it be something else. he has a basking spot of 100 and the cool side is around 80 in a 20 long I know its small but Im gona build something big soon. Im new to tegus but have lots of experence with snakes and geckos. I would love any input thanks so much.

Go onto thetegu.com. Not that many people get on here its better. I would imagine you should leave him alone for a while he is adjusting to the new environment.

this is very common in new tegu's especially young ones. it is just scared. you dont want to rush it too much. they like to burrow and hide. try some superworms. my newest blue would even come to the front of the cage until i put a bowl of supers in thee and she put'em down quick and now explores everywhere and realizes i dont want to hurt her.
