tooth prob with alligator

twiggy stardust Jul 27, 2003 04:53 AM

I have a american alligator that was given to me to nurse back to health a year ago. It was very underweight/size and was only fed goldfish. He is now doubled in size and a very nice weight.

But a prob has arisen that is new to me. I am experienced in monitor care, but this is my first croc, and a prob I've never encountered before.

He has been exchanging teeth often as he grows, but it seems suddenly most of the uppers have fallen out at once.

I have heat and filtered water, and his main diet is chicken parts w/bones and vitamin suppliments.

any tips would be appreciated...Thank you

If he just came out of a winter-like temperature, environment, then it is not unusual to replace many teeth simultaniously. Was he kept particularly cold until recently?

It isn't "Ideas" that fail or succeed,... it is the "Systems" which are instilled to launch and sustain the idea that either fail or succeed.>[Me.]

Dear Brian,
his heat was out for some time in the winter, as he damaged it, and it was some time before i noticed and was able to replace it with a "croc proof" heat, but the tank is indoors and was at least room temp, thought the water temp was lower.
