Anyone have a Boaphile cage???

herpsRkool Feb 21, 2006 06:54 PM

I decided that I'm not going to build a cage because I just can't find the time. Someone told me that I could buy a cage that's the same size as what I was planning on building from boaphile plastics and I was curious about them. I went to the site and checked it out but I want to hear from someone who has used one or something simular before I buy one.

Thanks

They are good enclosures. The turn around time from order to arrival can and usually will take quite awhile though.

They are a very good product. The downside is waiting for your cage to arrive. Also, if you move, need to store the cage temporarily, etc., they are too bulky. Check the classifieds and you will see that most boaphile products being sold as used are for pickup only. That's why I like Animal Plastics racks and cages. They disassemble in a few minutes and can easily be stored, moved, shipped, etc.

What's nice about Visions is they are very light and sturdy and can just be thrown around and most can be moved easily by one person with the glass removed. No cage is perfect, but I like the simplicity and ruggedness of the Visions. I have experience with AP racks and I like them. They seem very well built.

I forgot to add that one of the nice things about the Visions is that they have good ventilation that can be reduced by laying a sheet of glass over the screen and that you have lighting options of a few different fish tank strip lites in various wattages(bright for plants/dim for shy animals to just barely illuminate) with Boaphile and the like there is usually only an undercabinet lite option. I have heard that Boaphile and AP are better insulated. No cage is perfect. No seamms of any kind also on the Vision if you want a water feature of some kind also with out leaking worries. Some folks like the black plastic on APs amd Boaphile to make the animals feel more hidden and calm. "You pays your money and takes your chances."

I have not experienced glass binding on the Visions. I only go three high(cages lower than 18" don't get cleaned often enough imho) and use 2" strips of wood lengthwise between cages and a thin sheet of plywood below that at every level and it evenly distibutes the weight and allows a nice airspace for the Ultrtherm mats. You can also get immeadiate gratiication with Visions and Showcase cages because they are stocked rather than custom built and less expensive to ship due to their light weight.VERY easy to throw up in the attic when not in use. Good luck.
