candb Feb 21, 2006 07:02 PM

Just wondering how the S. Ringneck is coming along.

I just wanted to know how long he was and how thick he is, like a dime size or bigger.

Would also like to see some more pictures of the guy.. Thanks

I have a pretty beefy 05, ill post pictures soon hopefully

is eating me out of house and home. I have provided a defrosted unscented pink every other day and she is eating. I mean she went into shed and turned blue-eyed, and I figured what the heck, and threw in a big old pink, and she ate it. Then 2 days later when she was all hiding and wanted to rest before her shed, I put in another jumbo pink next to her and she ate it. So far she has eaten a pink every other day and I think I only skipped 2 days feeding her. She poops like no tomorrow but they are healthy poops, no nasty smell and pretty solid considering she is eating something they perhaps don't normally eat. I gotta say that if I let this gal go, she will raid mice nests, but I am keeping her to just experiment to see how fast she will grow. I don't have her belly or girth measurements, but she was 14 inches long (I think) when I started this trial, so I will measure her a month later and deduct her weight on my taxes.

Yea, I was just as surprised to see her gobble down pinks when in full shed. She thinks she is a kingsnake and I am not going to tell her any different. She now lives a few feet away from the freezer where the pinks are stored.

Awesome man, 14 inches is a good size and the way your feeding him i wouldnt be surprized if you could beat the record. I think it is like 18.4 or something around there.

I think you should breed him.

Did you do what ever you need to do to make it a official record, send it in somewhere?

Nope... The pictures don't show it, but the snake has a full ring, a yellow tail. It's a northern X southern intergrade, making the would-be record invalid.

Where was that snake found?? What criteria do you use to label it an intergrade? The yellow tail? The locale? All the above??
I spent some time breeding southerns and seldom got over 14".
Off hand, what is the record northern Mike?
Have you kept any ssp. from egg to egg?? Which seem easiest to you?

I actually don't recall. This was about 2 years ago, I lost touch with the person.

It was found in an intergrade zone.

28". I've had 3 or 4 northerns close to that.

Never produced any F2s, didn't really have the time and motivation for that. But to me the southerns are easier to keep and breed than the northerns, due to the fact the northerns like salamanders too much, and most southerns will go right after fish or worms.

if it were fully stretched.

HerperHelmz Feb 27, 2006 01:12 PM

It wasn't stretched at all. Look at the waves in it's body, it wasn't stretched but could've been.
