leo death,'cause??

bob_the_snowman Jul 27, 2003 06:36 AM

hey all i recently had my leo die on me,i'm not quite sure why
but that's why i'm here,my first guess would be that i made a really
stupid mistake,and i fed them superworms....second guess
would be crypto,i hope and pray it's not crypto, one of my other leos
has light black and blue spots on his belly(hopefully just his organs....)
my leo's aren't that old(i'd hafta guess maybe 5 months old)
i also fould a bloody stool in the tank(after one of my leo's passed away
so it's another one of the three)could i get other blizzard leopard
owner's to look at their blizzards belly??and tell me what you see
but all are eating, and are fat for their age...also i'm under the
impression crypto takes awhile to kill off it's host,i'm pretty
sure the death of my other leo was indeed the superworms he ate
but what about my other guys,do you think i should worry....sorry
for the long post, anything at all would help!

Both of my blizzards are tubbos, but you can see their organs. They are very light, and you should be able to tell which ones are what. Given the situation, I would highly suggest taking a fecal sample to a vet. It costs about 10-15 dollars in my area, and is well worth the money spent just for your state of mind. Its *always* a good idea to check when one leo in a tank dies. A few years back I lost one leo to coccidia, and a vet trip proved that the three tankmates had it as well. After treatment, they are all fine.

It couldnt have been the superworms, they cant eat through the stomach ect. I feed my leo a staple of superworms, they're actually pretty good for your leo, just as good if not better than mealies and crickets. A bloody stool isnt good, so id get a fecal test done to see what the problem is, it might have been some sort of parasite that killed your other leo, was he losing weight ect before he died? Was it totally unexpected? Good luck,
Mac

Schitzo seemed perfectly fine prior to his death, he was always the best eater out of the bunch, and I dont think he had lost any weight prior, but tomorrow we're going to vet becuz one of our other geckos stomach seems to have dark colouring in it, looks like internal bleeding while we're there we are going to get a neocrospy done on Schitzo, Has anyone heard of any internal bleeding in geckos? have thye survived?
thx
