Box-o-bloods: Revisited!

Matt...Hennek Feb 22, 2006 12:18 PM

One question I often see asks where to get a RED blood because most juveniles seen to be drab. Some people go and buy an imported sub-adult with good color, but sacrifice attitude for color. Hopefully this will show that if you buy snakes from someone who has good breeding stock, the drab juveniles will turn into nice adults (both in color and attitude!).

These are the 14 bloods I got from Kara (NERD/bloodpythons.com) last May/June. As you can see, with the exception of the two sitting on the sides of the box (het albino's), they really aren't very red animals.

I'm a big fan of before and after pics...so, I took some pics last night of the same bloods (plus one I got from Kara last April), the exact same box, only 9 months and 344 rats later. To minimize stress and not crush anyone, I split them up into three groups. All are 04' animals and you can really tell who loves to eat and who thinks being thin is sexy. You can also see how their colors are just STARTING to come in yet are already quite colorful. Unlike many ball pythons, every shed brings better and better color.

Here's a good comparison on how feeding behavior can DRAMATICALLY affect growth. Peanut is a VERY picky eater while Sunset will eat anything you put in front of her. Both are '04's from Kara:

I'm really hoping Peanut starts to eat a little more because for her size she has AMAZING color and is going to turn into a SMOKING adult. Even better she doesn't have a single aggressive bone in her body.

ENJOY!!!

Nice before and after shots, thanks for taking the time to do it. Good luck with that group.

Very impressive pics there Matt. You have some beauties. The difference in the last two portrayed is hard to believe! Are you sure the little one isn't P. brongermai miniaturata?

"Are you sure the little one isn't P. brongermai miniaturata?"

No, but I do think she is P. brongersmai anorexiata.

Hey Matt,

One word: OUTSTANDING!!!

Keep us posted over time with their progress.

p.s. - I plan to take and post a similar pic with my group of 8 'Ultra-Breits' I hatched in 2005 with a 'normal' sibling. Great stuff!
