to tame, or not to tame lol

I know this is normal behavior or so I have read and been told but I have never had such a trying lizard when it comes to taming. Spaz my approx. 4 month old rhino still lives up to his name. He is fine if you sit next to his enclosure and talk/watch him but soon as you open the enclosure he is running, digging and leaping to get away. If your bringing him food he will calm down as soon as he sees the dish and will even take his favorite foods from your fingers but soon as the item is gone he is back to running or sometimes even biting. And the strangest thing out of all this is if you can get him to step up on your hand or if you just pick him up...boom he is totally calm, walks around on your hand, your arms and perches on your shoulder and licks your face or if someone else is sitting near he will climb off you onto say our couch and onto the other person and after a few minutes he does it all over again. If two years old is the magic age I can't wait. lol
