sad day for our house...

As you can probably guess from the subject, we lost of one our snakes today. We're not really sure why he passed, but we all feel pretty awful about it.

At the expo we met a breeder named Ruth Hanney. She was extremely kind, gave us her card and told us to call if anything was wrong and she would try to walk us through it (we told her about the regurge). We called her today, but both me and Matt knew it was too late. Ruth thinks there was nothing we could do. She said he was just too weak and too little and it probably wasn't our faults, it was probably too late for him.

We talked it over for a bit, and we decided to try again. On Sunday we're going to Ruth's to pick out a new corn snake, one that's already healthy and a bit bigger. Hopefully a fresh start with a healthy snake will make all the difference.

Thanks for all your advice during the times I had questions about him. I don't think there was anything more we could have done.

-Emily

It really hurts whenever we lose one. It is good that you are getting a new baby to help you through this, although you can never replace that first baby. I also agree that your first baby was probably too far gone by the time he left the pet shop to make it.

Remember that you want to quarantine your new arrival totally away from your other corn. Feed him last, hold him last, and make sure that you don't share anything from the other cage. Wash your hands scrupulously in between snakes. This is in case there was anything contagious in either snake.

Post pix of your new baby when you get him.

I agree that it is good that you are going to try again. It doesn't matter why they die or how, it is still very heart breaking to see such a little thing pass away.
