Average size of Male Bloods?

skudlord Feb 22, 2006 09:52 PM

Very interested in adding a Blood to my collection. Since females tend to get to heavy to handle without the danger of hurting them I want to get a male. I have read plenty of Care sheets stating sizes of Bloods but I would like to get a general idea from the owners on this board. I really don't want a snake that will grow over six feet in length which is another reason for choosing a male, it is more likely to stay shorter and thinner. How big is yours?

the males in my opinion tend to be shorter in length but get just as thick and still might be 20 pounds or more. there are some guys on here that have huge males hopefull they will post them for you. i will post my male later tonight hes awsome. i would say the average male is 4 foot or so.

My male is my pride and joy. If you are careful you can handle either sex without a problem as an adult. My male is very large for his sex. He's approx 6ft or close to it and not sure how much he weighs. He is a true pure malaysian and malaysians are said to grow the largest. When fed up he gets just as large as the female. In adults you need to watch feeding.

Here are some pics:

Thanks to those that responded and posted pics. But, is there not more owners of male Bloods on this board. I would just like to know that these snakes stay less than 5 feet on average.

I'd guess most blood owners would agree that males generally are smaller than their sisters and that a five-footer is a large male. But from the responses, I'd guess most of us think "a good big one beats a good little one" and are reluctant to assure you that a given male will necessarily grow to be the size you desire.

brongersmai males and they are all between 5.5 and 6.0 feet. I have seen males over 6 feet but it is not common.

Hate to burst your bubble, but my male blood is still what I consider to be large. I'm not sure what length he is but he's easily over 5 ft and just as easily pushing 20 lbs. An adult blood is going to be thick no matter what the sex. I don't have any good size comparison shots of him, maybe i can get some up at some point today. He is a brongersmai though....if you're really worried about size check out the sumatran short-tails (P. curtus). The borneos also *tend to be smaller than brongersmai to start with. Hope that helped some.
