I have a glass exo terra aquarium and the humidity is awful. Any suggestions? I tried a fogger but it just flooded the whole bottom of the cage. I haven’t tried a mister, if I should please give me a good name brand for a good price. thnx

What are you using for as a substrate? Any plants? What size? I use the 12x12x18 with potting soil/peatmoss and reptile bark on top as substrate. I use grape wood for the pearches and a couple of plants. I also covered half of the screen on top. Humity stays around 60 - 80%.

My advice is to get rid of the exo terra and get something more appropriate for arboreal snakes. Considering basic high school physical science, you will NEVER be able to efficiently maintain humidity in an open top enclosure unless the room itself is kept humid (which may be an option). You can cover the entire top but as long as you have the round opening for the dome fixture, your humidity is going up and out as the warm air rises. In the appropriate enclosure, you can maintain the right humidity levels with nothing more than a good size water dish and misting once a day (if even that much).

I do use moss as my substrate but no real limbs because ive had mold problems before. I wet the entire bottom of moss and covered the top, so i guess i will wait and see if that will help.
If the top is covered, what are you doing for heat and ventilation?
Bart
the whole top isnt covered and the heat stays constant at 80 degrees so right now im not using a heat source besides a heat pad under the cage. I need to get a low watt bulb. Also the humidity has gone up to almost 65 just by covering 70% of the top of the cage so i believe my problem is solved, once i get a bulb. thnx guys
getting a bulb could actually make the problem worse...the heat form the bulbs tend to vaporize any moisture in the air...using a heat pad underneath should be enough. I used those exoterras for a little while with no heat/humidity issues using a heat pad/covering the top...i actually managed to keep a consistant 100% humidity during testing without spraying.

so you covered the top with a heat pad?
I think what he meant is he used a heat pad underneath and covered the top screen. I used this same method when I use a small BARRS cage which had a screened top. It worked well. What you need to be concerned with is maintaining ventilation.
Bart
i use the same method and it does work well....i use the tropicare humidifier though so there is no ventilation worries
