Do caiman bellow?

carlos1 Feb 23, 2006 07:15 AM

I was up this morning getting ready to feed my caiman. I was in the next room over and i heard this rumbling but differnt then when she is moving around her tank. I walked in and saw the water rippling around her with her haed out of the water in the pose you see Alligators do when they are bellowing.

DO females even bellow? I sexed my caiman for a female, but maybe i really have a male?

S(he)s about 5.5 yrs old.
Thanks!

I thought my caiman was a male for 10 years, does the water dance and seems to be somewhat on the large side - until "he" laid a clutch of eggs!

Neat setup with the upside down dish tray was wondering what to do to keep my P palpebrosus from beating around his filter & heater. I went to a headstone factory & got granite & marble headstone trimmings, they work well but you have to ensure that the water can flowing in & out of the filter & that the settings on the heater can be reached. I'll keep the dish tray in mind when I he graduates to a lager tank.

Hi Dean,

Thanks for the compliment. I like the dish rack because of the water flow coupled with durability. Just make sure you buy the all plastic one, not the plastic coated, metal framed type.
Eventually the platic coating deteriorates and the exposed metal will rust.

Rob
