Rack systems and costly freight charges?

mingdurga Feb 23, 2006 10:42 AM

Why do all the "nice" rack systems require expensive freight charges for shipping in one piece? Easy assembly and disassembly should be the main features so you can take it with you if necessary. I know UPS and Fedex have weight / size restrictions, but even this should negate the $300- $400 freight costs if you're not blessed with available docking space. I know of only one company that ships with manageable costs, and wonder why others don't pick up on this.

Because they are required to be shipped by frieght due to the fact they exceed the weight/linear measurments UPS and Fedex are confined to. Although Fedex does have freight and you can choose to pick up at the warehouse.

I agree but some manufactures construction techniques can't deal with the ability to disassemble/reasssemble. Its hard to unweld a welded plastic seam.

When it comes to freight the price changes a bit. Freight weights are based on weight and cubic footage. Another cost is having a dock, without it the delivery vehicle is required to have a lift deck. One option is to select a buisness address, often a lot cheaper just have to have or now someone with a buisness. Perferable one that recieves freight.

UPS and Fedex cut cost because of the numbers sending a package from point A to B is easy because ther are like a dozen more packages with the same route destination. With frieght one truck will drive nearly the entire route. That gets expensive mostly because of increasing fuel costs.

I hope that made some sense theres a lot more details I just spared you some bordom.

I didn't realize all of that myself. That freight charge was one of the detriments to going for a Freedom Breeder rack.
