Kaiya convulsing? Please respond...

lele Jul 27, 2003 09:43 AM

The vet put Kaiya on an antibiotic and I just gave it to her. I knew she wouldn't like it but her head turned black and then she began to gape - wide! She continued to gape and it seemed like she wanted to throw up (can chams vomit?) then she was twisting - almost like convulsing. She has stopped gaping for about 2 minutes as I write this but her head is black, her eyes are closed - and I'm freaking out! She just gaped again...

We gave this to her yesterday in the office and she did none of this...any advice???

my jacksons will act like they are throwing up sometime right after they eat....but they do that to repossision the food so it can be swallowed...mabe some of the antiboitic stayed in her mouth or something.

try asking the vet on the phone

I agree, probably just hates the taste. Should be fine. Don't freak out.

when she gapes to help dilute the taste or will that stress her out more?

I would just leave her alone for a while, let her calm down. Is she calming down any now?

well, she is not thrashing anymore and just gapes occasionally. Her eys are nearly black and her face is very dark. I'll leave her alone 'til much later and if here color returns and her eyes open I'll return her to the tank with some food. Thanks again,

Thanks! Someone in the office got a hold of the vet and he said that it is probably b/c of the taste. She is taking on the color pattern that Makeda did when she died two days ago so I got very concerned. I put her in a separate tank, high humidty and a basking light and something to hide under. My biggest concern was her aspirating. The way she was throwing her head around and all. I will leave her in there for several hours and keep an eye on her - poor thing (and poor me

thanks for replying so quickly!

Don't blame you, you have a right to be shell-shocked after the other one died. It will be fine. Odds are you won't lose another for a long time.
