and look at the all the cool, nifty things that are sold alongside! Cool - "Ma, can I have one??? and only $1.95!! Let's get two!"

Where did you find this? When I was a kid we had "chameleons" (anoles) and believed the silly story "if you put them on plaid they will die because they can't match the colors"

They had these advertisements in the back of "Boy's Life" magazine (boy schout magazine for anyone who doesn't know) in the early to mid 90's. Wouldn't be surprised if they still had them in current issues as well.

Lol... I had someone ask me the Plad thing the other day. Its surprising that even today people arnt sure what a chameleon is.

I don't thing that enough about animals is taught in school.

What a wierd advertisement! The picture looks more like a duck-billed anole than a chameleon. Where did you find this?

That is too funny. I actually bought those dang sea monkeys and all the junk you could buy for them. Then realized I had brine shrimp. I was so mad but but kept it to myself to avoid the humiliation lol..

izlight Feb 24, 2006 11:40 AM

You aren't alone! I did the same thing..

gomezvi Feb 23, 2006 11:13 PM

Does anybody remember when anoles were sold at fairs, with a short string attached to their body. The idea being that you would attach the string to your shirt button and you could walk around with an anole clinging to your body for it's dear life....

yup - I remember at the World's Fair in NY (1964-ish?) that they had them and would see people with them. Dad said no to us (good thing!) and he ended up with a HUGE praying mantis on his shirt - no string or button necessary, just hitched a ride! Funny the things we remember

Yeah, I too remember "chameleon accessories" of the 60's. My dad took me to a Beatles concert in '64 (I think). I got one there, but ended up releasing it in the woods behind the house.
My intentions were good, but information was not! LOL

lele Feb 24, 2006 02:28 PM

My Dad took me and my sister - yes, I think it was '64 b/c I was 10 years old. I still have my program and ticket stubs! We laos have 8x10 photos that Dad took. We sat in row QQQ!! Do you remember the big banner dropped along some of the rows that said HAppy Aniversary to John and Cynthia??? Hey, maybe we were sitting right next to each other Do you remember some of the other bands?

OMG...that is TOO wild! I was 10 also. It was a month before my birthday, so was my gift. Went to another one in '66. I only remember Bobby Goldsboro opening for one of them and a blonde female singer for one also. The programs and ticket stubs I kept for 20 years were destroyed in a fire, **&&!!##$

Ah, good times

izlight Feb 24, 2006 09:33 PM

I DO remember the John and Cynthia banner! I remember because my birthday is Sept 28, the concert in '64 was almost exactly a month before my B-day, and I thought it was so cool their anniversary was so close to my B-day! Ah, the musings of young young girls...LOL

lele Feb 25, 2006 12:55 PM

it's a small (cyber) world! My birthday is in October! I remember the "Cyrkle" (I think that's how they spelled it - I have the old 45 of red rubber ball! I am sure if any youngin's here are reading this thread we must seem ANCIENT!!) and the Ronettes?

Out of curiousity I did search to see what my program might be worth and found this site http://www.rarebeatles.com/photopg7/tourprog.htm The program I have is the one for 1966, but I know I was not 12 years old. hmmmm...now I am confused ;-/ do you recall what your program cover looked like? Check out the site and see.

bummer about the fire and loss

Along with chameleons I have collected comic books. That particular advertisement came from a copy of Amazing Spiderman #41 from 1968 the first appearance of the Rhino. lol. If anyone is interested I am selling off most of my collection on ebay.

I also remember advertisements in comic books for X-ray vision glasses, quail eggs and incubators, spider monkeys, sea monkeys (of course! LOL), sea horses and pipe fish. I had no interest in the X-ray vision glasses, but always begged for the animals!

lele Feb 24, 2006 02:40 PM

we used to catch live pipe fish while swimming at local beach.
