Mexican Black

theperfectlestat Feb 24, 2006 01:23 AM

I haven't posted much around here, so I thought I'd start out with a pic of my Mexican Black Kingsnake.

He's about 18 months old and 2 and a half feet. Is that a healthy size for his age? I don't know much yet, but I want to learn!

Very nice camera work and a beautiful snake as well. That size is a fine for his age. Good luck with him and welcome aboard !

Very nice indeed!

I'm pretty new to this board too, and I'm also considering getting an MBK. I love that crisp sheen!

Nice MBK! They're excellent "starter" snakes.

Very nice. How big do those get?
I was thinking of getting a pair at an upcoming show, but I like the larger Kings such as the Brooksi and Easterns.
I've seen one 4 1/2 feet long.

Get them, you won't be sorry! That's a good size for that age and it looks awesome! I have 5 now and they are one of my fav's.

Some have some that are almost 6' long!

theperfectlestat Feb 24, 2006 06:40 PM

Almost 6'? Wow. I hope mine gets nice and big. He's more than doubled in size since I got him, but he still has a long way to go to get that big!

Have you bred yours? I'd like to try breeding in the future, but I'd like to learn a lot more before I get into that.

all but one of mine are 05's so it will be 08 for them but I have a male ready to rock this year if I can find an adult female!

What about the L.t.Gaigae
They also get really big and turn black. Between the MBK and the Black Milk which should I go for or are they pretty much the same snake?

Thanks

gigae get huge and start out as a tricolored milksnake that turn black over a few years time. I like MBKs but maybe Keith Hillson will tout the gigae for you. How you liking 'em Keith?

Do the Black Milks have different care requirements from the MBK?
I like the larger size attained by the B. Milks and if they can be kept like a King I think I'll try them as new editions.

that is a great looking snake. i have three m.b.k. for the price you can't go wrong.funny thing is i wouldn't trade mine for anything.i like to put stuff like pvc pipe or boxes in the tub with them because they seem to like to climb up and hang out on them.

theperfectlestat Feb 24, 2006 06:42 PM

I need to get something nice and sturdy for mine to climb on. There are a few plants in his cage, but they're not strong enough... especially since he likes to dig them up. lol

xbertmouser Feb 24, 2006 07:56 PM

i like to use pvc pipe it is easy to clean, the costs are better than those hides at the pet shops, and there are many shapes and sizes to choose from.

They are a very easy to keep kingsnake with a psycho feeding response.

That's a nice sized snake. Looks about the same size as the one that caused me to fall in love with mbk's.

JETZEN Feb 25, 2006 07:06 AM

Here's another, check the speckling.

Just thought I'd add a photo to the collection shown here, all very nice especially your opening shot. I found the MBK that I had to be real lively and he had some appetite. I used to think he was going to strike at me when picking him up out of the tank, but he never did and once out in my hands, what a pleasure to hold and enjoy. That shiny irredescence underneath is something else. These are great snakes! Jim
