First time breeding balls... how to remove bad eggs stuck to good ones?

bcijoe Feb 24, 2006 07:33 AM

First time breeding balls, long time breeding boas... lol

So my first two clutches were laid right around Valentine's Day.

I have them maternally incubating right now, with proper heat, mulch, water..

I've been checking every few days and misting the mulch. They both have been doing superb with all the eggs, but now I noticed the smaller clutch has one or two bad eggs.

I quickly made an effort to remove the bad egg.. atleast the one on top, which is pretty bad, since I figured this could possibly damage the other eggs. Seems stuck pretty good to the other eggs, and seems like I would possibly tear the other eggs open if removing this one.
I even tried misting them a bit, thinking it would 'loosen the adhesiveness' of it, but nothing... i'm worried that I would damage the other eggs.

How do you do this?

Thanks guys, Joe

I had posted pics before, here they are again gravid...

I have never removed the bad eggs, as long as the other eggs are healthy they wont be affected.

Agreed. Just leave them if they are attached.

Hey Joe. In most cases you really don't need to seperate bad eggs from the rest of the clutch. Good eggs have a strong immune system and will not be killed by an adjacent bad egg in most cases. I do it when I can easily, but if it is at all a difficult "removal" I just let it go. The technique most often used would be to use dental floss to "saw" between the adhered eggs and seperate them. Some folks will even run a little water over the adhered eggs while gently seperating them. This scares the hell out of me personally, and I would never do it. Like I said before, and as you can see in the pic below, badd eggs don't generally harm good ones- Good luck!

I just take them off....pull them apart....carefully....

I do not let them in the incubater.......I need the room...

and yes I have had the bad eggs sweat and the extra moisture has killed good eggs.......

Thanks. I know the bad eggs could damage the good eggs... it's obvious... not from the inside out, but from the outside in.

but the just remove them part.... like I said, I really thought the good eggs were about to tear open in half.. I mean this thing was really stuck on there, not even budging a bit..

thanks again, joe

they can tear and they will if you just happen to rip them apart wrongly........

I have ripped holes in eggs (not balls')

........holes have been taped shut too........no it doesn't work all the time........I have just ripped the torn ones off and thrown them away too........might as well do the inevidable

If you have an egg that has gone back can't you just cut off the part not attached to the clutch - without damaging the the egg(s) attached to the bad one? I wouldn't think a small part of an egg would sweat - am I wrong?

yes you can cut the bad egg and let the little part of the shell that is stuck to good eggs.......

you will get stinky.......yolky...have to wash part of the good eggs off........and have yolk that runs all over the place(INTO sink).......but yes you can do it .....yes I have done it....

it smells.....I do it only if I cannot rip them apart...some eggs are easier than others to pull some do not budge.....

I have been through it all.......

I have lost and killed enough stuff to know.......is that a good thang?..........

.........wanna see the freezer's bottom drawer?.......(snakes skinned)........

........the sooner you pull them apart the better.......if they set they setup.......

eggs heal them selves...they are very tough...........tuff.....whatever..........
