DYI PVC branches

chiropteragirl Feb 24, 2006 04:25 PM

I've seen post here awhlie back about how to make branches by melting the outside of PVC pipe with a torch. I can't seem to find any of the posts in the archives. I thought I had a site about how to make them bookmarked but I don't see it. Can anyone help me out? Holly

Use torch as your keyword in 2005 archives. Derek

I just went to Lowes and bought some PVC. I got the 2". It was less than 7$ for 10 feet. I already had a propane torch, which is pretty cheap. You can shape it however you want when it heats up. This is only my first try. I heated the short piece and cut a hole in it with a razor knife. It is amazingly easy. Derek

Burning PVC pipe

If you have a heat gun (for stripping paint) I have found it works better than a torch. It turns it a nice brown, gives it a great texture but does not char it like a flame can. It may take a little longer to heat it up but not much. I have worked with this method for a while and it is fantastic. You can even get creative with gluing branches on the trunk with pvc glue. good luck. this foto shows a bansai tree I made for my BP. Not a very good picture for the tree, I will try to post a better one later.

i agree about the heat gun. those things get HOT and they are easier to use, kind of like a hair drier on STEROIDS. i would go that route
