whats up with the dudes claws?

tamlin Feb 24, 2006 05:47 PM

for the past 2 years that i have had my basilisk I have noticed that his nails are always blunt and about half the length they should be. this confuses me because his enclosure is glass and wood, and there is no furniture that would dull them that much.
could this be a sign of a lack of calcium? if so, why has there never been any other signs of this?
it doesnt seem to bother him, but i just thought it was worth asking about.

My guess is just normal wear and tear during climbing. If he's healthy, be THANKFUL that you don't get SHREDDED everytime you handle him. I don't cut my CWD nails so that they CAN climb more easily but when I handle them I almost need KEVLAR to protect myself. VERY sharp nails. Diane
