Three albino's, two real eastern kings and an imposter eastern king (I think florida)

Can you spot the imposter? More about her later. I'll place responses/threads here as I take the pictures.

Bob,

I woke my stuff up in early January. 3 pairs of Easterns, 1 pair of Speckleds, 1 pair of Scarlet Kings, 1 pair of Central Plains Milks have already locked up for me.

Still waiting to put your male Axanthic Brooks and my female Axanthic Brooks together. Hopefully they will take to each other.

Call me or email me sometime. Goin' to the Sandhills in April but Southern Maryland Herpin' (early May?) with the two of us should be on the schedule, don't you think?

nice how old are they. they look very healty. i like to see a snake wake up and look like they did when they were first cooled down. mine are waking up tomorrow it will be a big day because i haven't wired two of my new racks with flex watt yet! ow well any excuse to hang out in the snake room right.

kingsnaken Feb 24, 2006 09:07 PM

Nice! Good Luck! What kind of shelves with the labels are in your rack ? Derek

xbertmouser Feb 25, 2006 09:02 AM

i built it a few months ago.this is my first time breeding snakes so i wanted to do it as cheap as i could. i took 16x36" shelves 11 total and 4-16x96" shelves. put the small shelf on the ground-screw the 4 long ones(legs) to each corner on two sides.set your tub(i used 41qt from wall-mart)on the shelf-add about a 1/8" shim across the corners of the tub and the center. this space will comp you for the flex watt later.just keep going until you get to the top. i cut mine off at ten units. now i have a breeding rack that is four wide and ten high-my thought is that i will keep the male in the far left and his three females to the right of him.i am also building some grow out racks and some other combos. i just want to be ahead of the collection as far as space goes. when i was young i never had enough space for my snakes and they suffered. not now. hope this helps others.but to answer your question it is just the standard stock size from the local hardware store. i got it real cheap from a close out dealer. cool thing is i never had to cut anything but the hight of the four legs. so this whole system has 16-cuts all the same size. it only cost me $105.00 for the wood. now if i can only fill it with thayeri!!!! if you search for -troys ladder rack- in your browser you will find the site that i got the idea off of

I bought a large albino eastern project last year from a dealer (reputable and still is). He had obtained a complete collection and these snakes were part of the larger deal. He was sure this was all of the eastern project. Unknowns..caveat emptor...After many emails and photos I bought the group which was from "Terry Dunham's" line. Terry had nothing to do with this he is a fine man so don't anybody go off.

1.2 PHet, 0.2 albino, 1.1 hets all 1-2 yr-old

I'm thinking that an amel floridana was erroneously thrown into the group by mistake?

So as a result I can't trust that any of these animals are from the Nerd line through Terry, nice situation eh? Fortunately I have a pair I purchased from Terry that will go in 2007.

Are these represented correctly?

Bob,

The only thing I have to say about the amelanistic easterns is that...from the area they were reported to be found, it seems that they would be intergrades with nigra, does this make them worthless..I certainly don't think so! Especially since the original animal was subsequently bred into pure getula and have since lost most, if not all of the intergrade look the first ones had. Nigra and getula intergrade over a wide area in TN, AL and GA and even more interesting (to me at least) is that you can find animals that are "classics" of either ssp. mixed in over a wide band of habitat. For example you can find a textbook nigra in northwestern GA and then travel more into nigra range by several miles and find a snake that is obvioulsy an intergrade, then travel further towards nigra range and find a perfect textbook getula! The animals you have look like what an amelanistic N. GA Eastern would look like, with the exception of that one that is suspect...it does appear to have floridana influence. Of course there were people that in the beginning when the value was still high made thier own "home grown" amel easterns with flordana or californias...I saw some goini x california crosses many years ago that looked just like what you would expect a nice south GA amel to look like. on a seperate note I did see, when I was young, a wild caught amel eastern that was found on Centerville Rosebud Road northeast of Atlanta in a petshop....the snake made it's way from there to Zoo Atlanta where it lived for many years off exhibit. It's dead now I believe. It was a strange dark tan/yellow with white bands, possibly a different type of amel from the ones that are out there now. It's too bad it was never bred (as far as I know) to keep that mutation alive. That's my thoughts on the whole amel eastern thing...for whatever it worth (i.e. nothing) LOL

Great looking animals!

Wow Bob,

They all look great. How many black bellies do you have? I'ves only kept a pair (crap..I think you have all the rest...lol). Good work and good luck this year.

Will

BobBull Feb 25, 2006 08:10 AM

Will, I've got 2 females from you The one pictured and the 2005 non-feeder. She's still not eating after 6 weeks in the cold so I'm shoving rat tails down her throat about twice a week. I can hold out longer than she can. I also have the wide banded male from 2004 that is a blackbelly.

I acquired a South Carolina blackbelly female from Peter Jolles, again a non-feeder but she's come around. The Alb-02f is also a black/clear belly and I have a coupl that I think are "hets" but I'll test breed this year and next to find out. The curse of being a scientist is having more experiments than time.

At this time 1.4 blackbelly easterns.
