Fertilizer in a Ball Cage?

I have live plants in my Ball's tank, is it OK to use fertilizer on the plants?

I use to keep live plant's with a boa for sometime, I useed olant food sticks with no ill affect on the boa. She was in there for about 2 years and has bred since then. I would just make sure there is sphagnum mouse at the base of the plant so thier skin doesn' come in contact with the fertiler, and make sure your water supply for the snake is not near the plants...
