Help! My new gecko just laid eggs!!!!!

bluebug32 Feb 25, 2006 09:40 AM

Hi,

I need a quick answer here! I've had a gecko for a couple of years and just bought another one a week ago (they're housed seperately). I woke up to this picture this morning! I would like to keep the babies, but I've never done this before and have no clue how to incubate eggs. Any links, tips, anything would be appreciated as I am completely clueless.

Thanks!

Well the eggs look good. So you'll need a small Deli Container or a tupperware like container with a lid. You'll need to get some vermiculite or pearlite to use as an incubation medium. Add a small amount of the vermiculite or pearlite to the container, then add enough water to it so that you can feel the moistute in the medium when you squeeze it together but no water drips out. You need enough or the vermiculite or Pearlite so that the eggs can sit in it without rolling around. Try no to turn the eggs when you pick them up and handle them as little as possible. You can incubate them in the top of a closet that is betwen 82 to 86 F. They do best in complete darkness but you can check on them periodically without harming them. Babies should hatch in 60 days or so, so keep an eye on them. If the eggs start growing mold then they are no good, just throw them out. Good Luck!

where do I buy vermiculite? How do I make sure the eggs are at the right temp? Do I have to keep moistening it? Is it possible to just leave the eggs in there in the closed container with her?

Go to www.albeysreptiles.com . On his site you will find detailed instructions on how to incubate your eggs. This is the method i have used for years. Also you can get perlite at a gardening center. Thermastats at pet stores, and you can either make an incubater or buy one online. Good luck.
